Logan's SpaceMay 19 Need to update.... I've been doing the Facebook thing--and then I noticed that my LinkedIn profile is sending visitors here, so I'd better keep this site up to date too! November 28 The Big DI'm now in Dallas! Haven't updated this site for awhile. I've been caught up in the latest internet craze--Facebook. I'm sure we'll all grow tired of it eventually and find the next MySpace replacement website...
Dallas has exceeded expectations. First impression is that of a sprawling soulless stereotypical American city, but after living here six months, I've found that there is a little heart to Dallas. Not many places to take pictures of, but it's a great city for day-to-day living, and very affordable! (Especially after California!) I'm going to have to get creative with my photo-taking. March 09 LA DrivingSo, I'm working in LA for the winter. Nice weather. But a very pedestrian-unfriendly environment. Leftists, especially in California, are often too self-deprecating about America, but I think as far as environmentalism in CA goes, they are justified. For supposedly having the toughest environmental laws in the world, I'm amazed at how unpedstrian-friendly the streets of downtown Glendale are. People in cars regularly pull into crosswalks, and then give me a look of shock followed by a dumb-blond smile and wave as they go through the motions of trying to reverse as I make my way across the street. Worse yet, I actually have to push the crosswalk button to make the "Walk" sign appear. Otherwise, it defaults to "Don't Walk" and favors the automobiles, which are quite large. Who in Southern California needs a massive 4X4 pickup or SUV? They never get snow or ice, nor do most of them ever go off-road, I suspect. I've also been reminded of the term "California stop". Plus it's so nice out, why aren't more people walking or riding bicycles anyway? If this was any city in the Midwest or East, there would be twice as many people outside. Perhaps they don't want to race across the streets and are taking their cue from the crosswalk signs, which immediately start blinking "Don't Walk" anyway...
